Political Circus: October 24 – 30, 2016

Between now and election day, November 8, a look back at the political circus during the prior week. This is the last full week coming up of the 2016 election cycle.

Monday, 10/24/2016:

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has hit 50% in the latest ABC News poll as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has sunk to 38%.

The CNN/ORC Poll of Polls of four major polls has Clinton with a nine-point lead today.

Can Trump recover with only two weeks until Election Day?

What’s this?!

A new poll out today have the two major candidates tied at 41% each.

The Hill reports:

The Investor’s Business Daily/TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence Tracking Poll — once called the the most accurate poll of the 2012 election by pollster Nate Silver — gives both Clinton and Trump 41 percent support apiece in a four-way race.

Both Clinton is being cautious about the proposed merger of AT&T and Time Warner, saying many questions need answered.

Trump is against the deal.

Trump has claimed the women coming out saying he made unwanted sexual advances were orchestrated by the Clinton campaign.

Now hacked emails indicate that the former Miss Universe accusation was months in the making. That email was sent to Clinton Campaign Chair John Podesta in December, 2015, outlining the complaints against Trump.

As the race becomes more vicious, the all important Millennials are getting turned off and tuning out of the election.

What happens if Millennials stay home?

This is worth a read: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-millennials-idUSKCN12O1X8

Those hacked emails reveal that the Clinton campaign thought that Clinton could make her use of a private email server and her destroying emails go away by turning the issue into a joke.

Looks like the joke is on Clinton.

Trump’s “nasty woman” comment at the final debate has been turned into a battle cry by female supporters of Clinton as they embrace the term.

Eric Trump and his wife posed for a pic with a young woman sporting a shirt that read, “Latinas Contra Trump“. Eric did not realize she was not a fan, but her shirt noted she was against Trump.

More from the hacked emails reveal that even Clinton’s campaign staff have been having trouble trying to figure out what the candidate’s “vision” is for America and the future.

Key black Congressmen are urging Clinton to let go of some of her war chest and invest in the black campaigns if she wants a friendly Congress.

Tuesday 10/25/2016:

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren made it clear that the presidential contest is one between the genders as she campaigned with Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Monday.

Talking directly to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Warren said, “Well I’ve got news for you, Donald Trump. Women have had it with guys like you. And nasty women have really had it with guys like you. And on November 8, we nasty women are going to march our nasty feet to cast our nasty votes to get you out of our lives forever.”

To watch Clinton going after down ballot candidates to help her get legislation passed and to listen to a lot of the national media, the race is over.

Clinton has won the Electoral College and there is no need to get out and vote.

You don’t agree?

The latest CNN/ORC poll released last evening has Clinton losing ground and Trump gaining. The race now is Clinton 49% and Trump 44%.

Trump Tower Live – the beginning of Trump TV?

The Donald launched a nightly broadcast on Facebook last night. It is pure advertisement for the campaign, but is set up like a news cast.

Trump surrogate and host last night, Boris Epshteyn said that the program “has nothing to do with Trump TV. It has everything to do with making sure our supporters get out to vote.”

You decide.

The double-digit increase in health insurance rates is being praised as a blessing by Republicans coming two weeks from the Presidential Election. Trump is already making hay of the White House admitting to the impact on people’s wallets.

Could this be a game changer?

Many may recall I spoke out about this on CNN with Randi Kay four years ago! (http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/ireports/2012/06/25/irpt-ivy-health-sot.cnn)

Bad optics: The FBI assistant director in charge of the investigation into the private server used by Clinton while she was Secretary of State is married to a woman, who unsuccessfully ran for the Virginia House of Burgess. The candidate received a $500,000 campaign contribution from a group associated with long-time Clinton ally, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe.

This happened long before the investigation and no wrongdoing. It is the optics sure do not look good.

Pennsylvania’s Republican Party has filed a lawsuit claiming the state’s poll watcher law is unconstitutional.

A federal court suspended Michigan’s ban on ballot selfies.

Fearing a lawsuit, the American Bar Association has nixed a report which calls Trump a “libel bully.”

Leaked emails reveal an intense interest on diversity in the make-up of the Clinton campaign prior to her current run for office: “four ‘POC,’ or people of color, four women ‘assuming COO is a white woman’ and six white men.” So, the email says, that is “33% diverse, 33% women, 50% white men.”

By the way, all the talk by Clinton on equal pay between men and women, information from the Clinton Foundation reveals back in 2013: the median salary of the highest paid men at the foundation was $346,106, while the median salary of the highest paid women was $185,386 — roughly a $160,000 difference.

A new survey says that 54% of Democrats say their party is united compared to only 4% of Republicans who feel that way.

Wednesday 10/26/2016:

In a hacked email, the woman heading the transition team for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton bluntly stated why she believes Clinton and company did not get out in front of the use of a private email server while Secretary of State:

They wanted to get away with it.”

How stupid does the former First Lady think the American people are?

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is trying to pivot from women accusing him of sexual assault by hitting hard on the 22% average increase expected for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act’s Marketplace Exchange.

Can he stick with it?

Where can you take selfies with your ballot?

Happy 69th Birthday, Hillary Clinton!

Which states can change who leads the Senate?

The states colored purple are which ones may likely change.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio appears to be sailing to re-election with a 10-point lead over his Democratic opponent.

Former Indiana Democratic Senator Evan Bayh missed over 75 percent of his Senate Armed Services Committee hearings while he was a member between 2003 and 2011, BuzzFeed News reports.

Even the day of the Iraq invasion.

Bayh is in a tight race to go back to the Senate from here in the Cornfield against Republican Todd Young.

Trump made a pitstop today for the grand opening of his new hotel in Washington DC before heading to North Carolina.

The national press corps is making much ado about nothing by Trump’s pause.

By 28% nationally those under 30 prefer Clinton to Trump.

You can tell that GOP vice presidential nominee Mike Pence is from the Cornfield. Last night, like trying to herd cows to the barn in the evening, Pence told Republicans it is “time to come home.”

Trump has cutoff fundraising for the Republican National Party while Clinton is directing big donors to give to Senate races instead of her.

The Republican National Committee is sinking $25 million to save seven Senate seats.

In early voting and absentee balloting nearly 9 million votes have been cast to-date.

Released today, a USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll revealed concern by 51% of voters about violence breaking out on Election Day.

Utah Republican Jason Chaffetz says he and fellow GOP lawmakers are prepared for years of investigation into a President Hillary Clinton.

Even before we get to Day One, we’ve got two years’ worth of material already lined up. She has four years of history at the State Department, and it ain’t good,” Chaffetz said.

How soon will we see Vice President Joe Biden and Trump climb into the ring at a WWE event?

Stating the obvious, Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine quipped, “Other than supervising attorneys on occasion, this will be the first time I’ve had a female boss.”

That Clinton laugh that seems so contrived and at times more like a cackle, Clinton Campaign Chair John Podesta referred to as Clinton’s “authentic weirdness.”

Someone took a sledgehammer to Trump’s star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

Thursday 10/27/2016:

Contrary to the narrative over the past week, the presidential election is not yet over.

The latest poll from Fox News showed that the big lead of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has been whittled away to only three points.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is still in the thick of it all and closing and topping Clinton in key battleground states.

Hacked emails show that even Chelsea Clinton found something unseemly in her father, the former Prez and husband of the Dems wannabe, and the Clinton Foundation both receiving money for speeches from the same sources.

Trump said this morning that wife, Melania, will be out giving speeches as the race winds down. The last time she spoke was at the Republican National Convention.

Former presidential hopeful and Texas Senator Ted Cruz is hinting that if there is a Clinton win come November that vacant Supreme Court seat may remain vacant indefinitely until there is a Republican President.

The Democratic National Committee is suing the Republican National Committee for not putting an effective muzzle on Trump and his statements about a “rigged” system and election. Specifically, the DNC is asking that the RNC be stopped from putting poll watchers at some ballot stations.

The concern is voter intimidation.

Some GOP lawmakers are heeding Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence’s moose call to come home. Although not endorsing Trump, some Republican Congresspersons are now saying they will vote for Trump.

Win or lose, Clinton will be watching election returns in New York’s Javitz Convention Center which boasts a real glass ceiling.

A voting machine in Bryan County, Georgia has been removed from service after complaints the machine was “flipping” some presidential votes.

A second day of Woman Power as First Lady Michelle Obama joined Clinton at Wake Forest, North Carolina for a rally this afternoon.

What is a pollster to do when people are refusing to take their calls?

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the idea that his country is trying to influence the American presidential election is “mythical and fictitious.”

A suspect has been arrested for taking a sledgehammer to Trump’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

Some are worried of another “Revolutionary War” if Trump loses and Clinton wins the White House.

She may campaign as an avowed far-left liberal, but the portfolio of Green Party presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein paints a different picture.

I have long since thrown in the towel on the Democratic and Republican parties because they are really a front group for the 1 percent, for predatory banks, fossil fuel giants and war profiteers,” Stein told CNN back in April.

Check out the details of Stein’s money (and I don’t mean Ben Stein’s Money): http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/10/26/jill-stein-s-ideology-says-one-thing-her-investment-portfolio-says-another.html

Do what?

Trump finding common ground with liberal film maker Michael Moore?

I agree, @MMFlint- To all Americans, I see you & I hear you. I am your voice. Vote to #DrainTheSwamp w/ me on 11/8, Trump tweeted.

This came after Moore said Trump would win because working class Americans are sick of the Washington establishment.

Friday 10/28/2016:

It was a scary 10 seconds for Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence and people on board his private jet last night when the plane skidded off the runway while landing in New York City, New York at LaGuardia.

The plane came to rest in the grass feet from the highway.

Call off the election?

That is what Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump jokingly said during a rally last night. He added to hand the election to him since his rival, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, is proposing such “bad policies.”

If #NeverTrump independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin takes the State of Utah could he and the other 3rd party candidates deny both Trump and Clinton an Electoral College win?

If so, would we end up with Voters Only Hope?

Turn-out is more vital than ever during this election cycle.

Will Clinton and the media suggesting she has the election sewn up play into Trump’s hands, keeping her voters home?

Republican Senator Mark Kirk did himself no favors in a debate last night with rival Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth in a slurring comment about her Thailand heritage after she noted her family had a long, distinguished military service dating back to the Revolutionary War.

Duckworth’s father traces his lineage back to the founding of the nation. Her mother is of Thai heritage. Duckworth was born in Thailand.

Duckworth also lost her legs while serving in Iraq.

The Illinois Senate seat is a likely pick-up in the Democrats quest to regain control of the US Senate. After last night’s quip by Kirk, that seems even more likely.

Scuttlebutt has it that Vice President Joe Biden is under consideration to be Secretary of State if Clinton becomes President.

Have you seen Trump’s appeal to Indian-Americans where he even speaks in Hindi?

Catch it here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2016/10/27/trump-speaks-hindi-with-a-new-york-accent-in-a-new-campaign-ad/

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is launching a new investigation into the emails sent and received by Clinton while Secretary of State with her private email server. The investigation is coming after the discovery of new emails.

Could this be the October surprise the Trump campaign has been praying for?

Trump is pouncing immediately on the news of the probe into Clinton and her emails.

A man was arrested for wearing a red Trump hat and “deplorables” shirt to cast his vote in Texas. He was arrested after refusing to turn his shirt inside out. He did remove the hat. In many states it is illegal to promote a candidate within 100 feet of a polling station.

A Virginia man was arrested for voter registration fraud after filling out phony applications for an advocacy group in Alexandria, Virginia.

Two Florida women have been charged with voter fraud. One was charged with voter registration fraud filling out bogus forms. The other woman is accused of tampering with absentee ballots.

Clinton Headache – Utah Republican Representative Jason Chaffetz tweeted this morning:

FBI Director James Comey wrote in a letter to Congress that “in connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation … I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan is calling for the end of classified briefings for Clinton in light of the new probe.

This is a breaking story.

LATE BREAKING NEWS!: The emails in question were found in the FBI investigation into sexting allegations with a 15-year-old minor girl against former Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner, who is estranged from Clinton confidante Huma Adedin.

Sunday, 10/30/2016:

The last act in the Great American Soap Opera has begun.

The fat lady is prepping to take the stage, but she has not yet begun to sing.

This is the final week of one of the most unusual Presidential Elections in history.

Was the revelation of possible new emails pertinent to the FBI investigation of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while Secretary of State the surprise that will put Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in the White House?

Could the surge of #NeverTrump independent Evan McMullin in Utah and the 5% in national polls of Libertarian Gary Johnson throw the Electoral College into disarray handing no one with the necessary 270 votes to become President?

If No Electoral College Majority, Then What?

Nearly 14 million people have already voted in early and absentee voting. More than half of those votes are in key battleground states.

An ABC/Washington Post daily tracking poll has the race for the Oval Office neck-and-neck today with Clinton holding a tenuous 1-point lead over Trump.

The Cornfield’s own Indiana Secretary of State has been on a tear to root out voter fraud and corruption. She is tasked with certifying all registered voters are eligible to vote.

Now comes the revelation that nearly 1,500 people are on the roll of voters who registered before 1910. In other words these voters are all over 120 years old and most likely dead, but still on the books as certified eligible voters.

A Trump supporter who heckled the press corps at a rally by shouting, “Jew SA” instead of “USA” like all the other supporters was condemned by Trump Campaign Manager KellyAnne Conway on CNN‘s State of the Union this morning. Conway stated that had she been there and heard the man, he would have been removed from the rally.

A black Trump supporter was asked to leave because he was labeled a Democratic-plant paid to disrupt a Trump rally. Trump even called him a “thug” from the podium.

The man says he would still vote Trump.

American University Professor Allen J. Lichtman, who has accurately predicted the winner of every presidential election since 1984, is predicting a Trump win.

Read his rationale: https://www.yahoo.com/news/professor-whos-correctly-called-every-presidential-election-since-1984-predicts-trump-will-win-202136418.html

In Warren County, Ohio the local Democratic Party headquarters was the site of someone dumping a truckload of manure. The same thing happened at the same site back in 2012. No one was ever arrested or found to be the culprit.

Clinton Campaign Chair John Podesta told CNN‘s Jake Tapper this morning that Clinton “learns from her mistakes” whereas Trump keeps repeating the same over and over.

Melania Trump, who has not campaigned, will speak at a rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Thursday. Trump is trying to turn the blue state his way.

Not happy with the choices for President?

Maybe this is a solution: Voters Only Hope

The weekly: Cornfield Standings

Clinton’s Email Server Problem – On Friday FBI Director James Comey announced the discovery of emails on a computer in the possession of disgraced former New York Congressman and estranged husband of top Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton confidante, Huma Abedin, Anthony Weiner, which appear to be pertinent to the investigation of the private email server used while Clinton was Secretary of State.

Here is how Comey explain it to his staff at the FBI:

This morning I sent a letter to Congress in connection with the Secretary Clinton email investigation. Yesterday, the investigative team briefed me on their recommendation with respect to seeking access to emails that have recently been found in an unrelated case. Because those emails appear to be pertinent to our investigation, I agreed that we should take appropriate steps to obtain and review them.

Of course, we don’t ordinarily tell Congress about ongoing investigations, but here I feel an obligation to do so given that I testified repeatedly in recent months that our investigation was completed. I also think it would be misleading to the American people were we not to supplement the record.

At the same time, however, given that we don’t know the significance of this newly discovered collection of emails, I don’t want to create a misleading impression. In trying to strike that balance, in a brief letter and in the middle of an election season, there is significant risk of being misunderstood, but I wanted you to hear directly from me about it.”

It has now been revealed that the warrant to actually read the newly discovered emails has not yet been obtained. What is exactly in the emails or whether these are duplicates of emails already investigated is not yet known.

Republicans are praising Comey. Democrats are demonizing Comey.

All camps, including third parties, are calling on Comey to release more and detailed information before the November 8 election day.

We have also learned that top officials, including US Attorney General Loretta Lynch, asked Comey not to inform Congress of the new emails this close to the election.

The revelation is in direct opposition to standing policy to not make any such announcements of a political nature within 60 days of an election.

This just in: FBI agents have been aware of the emails for weeks, but just informed Comey on Thursday.

Thoughts on the new FBI revelation: Pardon Me?

Tune in next week for the final Political Circus.

I am now on hospice at home. Content and ready to cross over the river to the other side.

On September 2, 2014, I was diagnosed with disseminated histoplasmosis, a fungal infection, discovered by a biopsy of my larynx.
The infection is fatal if left untreated. For 2 1/2 years I lived under a death sentence being misdiagnosed
with a non-specific bacterial infection which left my right lung a “dried up sponge” and non-functioning.
I was aggressively treated for the infection with antifungals.
The treatment ended October of 2015 and fortunately did not take two years.

I suffer from chronic Horton’s Syndrome. The effects vary widely causing various problems.
Statistically, Horton’s affects only 0.1% of the population. Major depression also attacks me regularly.
